Homework Methods and Homework Station

Hey Flykids!
Yeah - homework isnt fun but the faster you get it over with, the faster you can put it back in your backpack and forget about it. I have a couple of tricks for doing homework.

1.  You can try doing 1 subject of homework and then take a 10-15 minute break and repeat. Be sure to set a timer while taking your breaks so you dont get sidetracked!

2. You can do 15 minutes of homework 5-10 minute breaks until it is finished. (Again make sure you set a timer! (Idea from flylady.net)

3.  If you can concentrate how about asking your parents if you can get a desk to put in your room and close your door or you can make  this :

DIN Principle

Hey Flykids!
Your probably wondering what the DIN Principle is! DIN stands for DO IT NOW. The principle part, well, doesn't have much meaning here. When can you use the DIN Principle? ALL THE TIME!

1.When you come in the door instead of dropping your schoolbag or whatever you have in your hands by the front door - just put it right where it belongs. (Doesn't have a spot? That is where de-cluttering comes in.. I will write my next post on de-cluttering!) This keeps it tidy and then your parents don't have to yell at you to put it away or ask you over and over again while you are playing video games or doing something you like to do.

2. When you get home from school do your homework now. ( I have a few secrets for that.. And if you are home-schooled, like I am , I have tricks for getting schoolwork done (I will post about it very soon! :D)

3. When your parents ask you to do something DIN. This may seem like a bother but the quicker you get it done the faster you will be able to get to play! (whether that means video games etc...)

4. When you get up in the morning do your MR right away! Same with your BBR :D

5. When you play with something or get something out - put it away right away when you are done with it.

6. When you change clothing - if that pair of clothing is dirty - put it in the hamper.

These are just a few ideas! I am sure you can come up with many more example!
                                         Have Fun!

Control Journal Day 10

Today is the last day for the steps! Of course you will have to remake your routines as seasons change and maybe this summer that routine will involve going out side! ( Make sure you have parents permission to go outside) Maybe you can add a wishlist to you control journal or a summer wish list ( Family movie night, picnic, sleep in tents, have a sleep over...etc)

            Have fun!!
               Jess
I am sooo proud of you for making your control journal and doing your routines!!

Control Journal Day 7

           Hey Everyone!
Now it is time to make your after school routine or when you get time routine. This is what flylady had as an example after school routine:

Afternoon School Routine
1. When you get home from school. Change your clothes. Put any gym
clothes in the hamper or even the washer to get them ready for next class or
practice.
2. Get a healthy snack, some water and sit down to do your homework.
3. Get out your timer. Set it for 15 minutes.
4. Work on your school work for these 15 minutes. Stay focused for the
whole time and you will get to take a break for 15 minutes and play a game
or listen music.
5. When the timer goes off you get to take a break. Set the timer again and
when it goes off, jump back into your homework. Keep doing this till your
homework is finished.
6. Check your calendar for any projects due that you need to work on. Do
not wait till the last minute to get started. Doing a little every day will make
it much easier on you. We call this the project mode.
7. Are there any household jobs that are your responsibility? Use your timer
to get these done too. They will not take very long to do them. Get them
done and you won’t get those looks from your parents. Put your gym clothes
in the dryer and the put them back in your back pack.
8. Put a smile on your face and give your mom a hug. Ask if there is
anything you can do to help with dinner. You will get a chance to see her
faint. It is always fun to keep our parents on their toes.
9. I am so proud of you for following your routines and helping yourself get
your homework and household chores done without having to be told.

This is my when I get a chance routine:
Mine is basically a when you get bored list ( Except for the clean the cat litter..lol)

                                           Have Fun!

Control Journal DAY 1

 Hey Flykids!
Here is step 1 to making your Control Journal (Of course you can always use Flylady's free one but for those of you who want to do it on your own ... well here are the steps.)

Heres Step One:
Make your BBR (Before Bed Routine) and do it tonight and the next night and the next night etc..
Here is my BBR!
It Consists of :

1) 5 minute room rescue (Pick up your toys and put away for 5 min)
2) Clothes out for tomorrow
3) Pajamas on / Shower
4) Dessert/Snack
5) Brush Teeth
6) Devotions in Bed
7) LIGHTS OUT!!!

You should have a binder to put your BBR routine in (3 hole punch it and put it in the binder)
OPTIONAL : Ask your parents for a Sheet Protector to put your routine in and then put it in your binder.

Have Fun!
Jess
